Styled Shoot // Golden Fields with Scenic Rim Bride at Royston House

We are so excited to share this magical styled shoot curated by Scenic Rim Bride at Royston House with the most wonderful team of suppliers!

We were honoured to be involved in this shoot which was inspired by nature, indulgence and passion.

The day was pulled together by Scenic Rim Bride, a wedding planning service offering couples access to exclusive spaces, local menus, refined wine and stunning photo locations through the Scenic Rim. The shoot took place amongst the sweeping views of the great dividing range at the amazing Royston House.

This hidden gem took our breath away! The naturally beautiful region is surrounded by a volcanic mountain range, creating the most spectacular views and backdrop for photos. We were in heaven making the most of the wide open spaces, golden fields, horses, stables and distant mountain ranges in a relaxed country setting reflecting the peace and natural beauty of this majestic landscape.

All our senses were indulged with the romantic styling on this day. Everything was basking in the warmth of this country oasis with shades of peaches and cream contrasted with amber and copper. Bare wooden tables paired with modern seating, hand blown glassware and a feast of home cooked country flavours.

This was truly an unforgettable shoot for us. We hope you get as much enjoyment scrolling through these images as we did taking them!

Thank you to this amazing creative team!

The Figtree Guide // How to Feel More Comfortable In Front of The Camera

Something we hear from so many of our couples is that they feel awkward or nervous about getting their wedding photos taken. This is completely normal and totally understandable, especially if you’ve never had your photo taken professionally before!

The good news is, even our most camera-shy couples come away from their wedding photography experience feeling relaxed, at ease, and yep – even having fun. Here at Figtree, we love to capture those candid moments and authentic emotions from the day, and go above and beyond to help you feel comfortable in order to do this.

Keep reading on for a few of our top tips on how to feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera!

1. Book an engagement shoot

Engagement shoots are the perfect opportunity to get some practice in before the wedding day! And will give you a great insight into what to expect on the day.

Once you’ve had a chance to get used to being photographed, you’ll be amazed at how relaxed you can feel! It also gives you the chance to hang out with us as your photographer before the wedding day so we can get to know each other’s personalities. This all helps us to create the most natural and candid photos possible.

At the end of it all, you’ll also end up with some super sweet photos of you both!

Just in case you need more convincing, here’s a link with more info about our engagement shoots and why we think they are such a great idea.

2. Book a hair and makeup trial

We are all for hair and makeup trials for so many reasons!

The best thing about having your beauty trials is that you’ll know exactly what to expect on the wedding day which will help ensure you’re completely confident in how you look and feel. This will all shine through in your photos!

Check out our top hair + makeup tips here.

3. Embrace the experience

Have fun and try not over think it! As simple as it sounds, focus on yourself and your partner, get lost in the moment and just be yourselves.

We’ll definitely give you direction throughout the shoot so that you aren’t just standing there awkwardly not knowing where to look, and if something doesn’t look right we will tell you. Trust us! However, we try to get you to do things that come naturally to create those candid style shots. If you’re ever feeling awkward, have a laugh about it and we will capture those wonderful in between moments.

Throughout the shoot, we also try to give you a moment on your own as newlyweds, as it may be the only time you get to spend alone all day. Rest assured we’re always looking for those super sweet candid moments as well, so we might be capturing the love from a distance…

4. Dress comfortably

To look comfortable in front of the camera, you have to feel comfortable!

For brides, think about your comfort and try to pick a dress that you can move easily in. We totally don’t want to be the fashion police but the more you can comfortably move in your dress, the less restricted you’ll be during the shoot. Grooms, if you’re getting married in summer, perhaps think twice about opting for a three piece suit!

On the flip side, if you’re getting married in winter, make sure you’ve got something warm for when the sun starts setting. Brides, you could rock a denim jacket in your photos or even just have something on hand for the in between moments when we’re not shooting.

Another big thing to think about is your footwear. Consider the location of your photo shoot e.g. if you’re planning on wandering through a beautiful long grass field, stilettos might be a bit tricky. Or if your heels are so amazingly pretty but uncomfortable, our tip is to bring a back up comfy pair of heels or flats just in case.

5. Be prepared

Lastly, you want to make sure you feel refreshed for your photo shoot.

By the time your location shoot comes around, for many brides you’ve been wearing your makeup for quite a few hours and there might have been a few happy tears and sneaky kisses. It’s a great idea to bring along a few makeup touch up essentials to ensure you’re feeling your best for the shoot e.g. lipstick, concealer, translucent powder. Bridesmaids are great for carrying these handy little bridal kits around!

And for brides and grooms, don’t forget to eat and hydrate! Pack a little something to eat and drink on your location shoot, you’ll be so thankful you did and it’ll help you feel totally ready to embrace being photographed!

Emily + Cohen // Earth House Wedding Photography, Byron Bay Wedding Photographer

Tell us a little about your day…
Our wedding day was just as we always hoped it would be: a relaxed, bohemian/tuscan vibe with beautiful views over the Byron Bay Hinterland. We feasted on delicious local food, shared lots of laughs and stories with our friends and danced the night away.

What was your fave part or moment from your day?
Cohen: Seeing Emily for the first time. Emily: Walking through the macadamia orchards with Cohen after our ceremony.

Do you have any words of wisdom or tips for future couples?
On your wedding day, don’t sweat the small stuff! The day will be a perfect memory for you to look back on if you are relaxed.

Aimee + Matthew // Osteria Casuarina Wedding Photography, Tweed Coast Wedding Photographer

Tell us a little about your day…
OMA gosh it was the best day of our lives. Cyclone Oma was not going to stop us, we wanted our day to reflect us as a couple and it did just that. We chose Osteria to hold our special day, we fell in love with the ceremony garden area, the fairy lights and the fact it was Italian food! Annie from Celebrate Lady Love was beyond amazing, she delivered a ceremony that had everyone shedding a tear to laughing all at the same time. Our reception involved speeches from our loved ones and a quick feed so we could spend the rest of the night on the dance floor.

What was your fave part or moment from your day?
From the minute I woke up on the day to the minute I closed my eyes that night were moments I will never forgot. If I had to choose one it would be the moment I got to the end of the aisle and held Matt’s hands, looking around at everyone’s smiling faces that were there purely for us. Actually, I can’t just name one, the other favourite moment was walking into the reception and seeing everything that we had chosen from the balloons, flowers, table settings, cake and things on the wishing well table all come together. I was absolutely blown away at how amazing it all looked, it was better than I ever imagined.

Do you have any words of wisdom or tips for future couples?
You can get so caught up in the details of the wedding and get carried away creating someone else’s wedding you have seen. It’s so important for your day to reflect you as a couple and let your personalities shine through. Setting a realistic budget before you set out looking at venues is imperative, there is no point falling in love with a venue if it is going to set you back before you have even started your life together. The whole day is about the two of you celebrating your love with the people that mean the most to you. If all your budget allows is a tree in your backyard it doesn’t matter, there are so many vendors out there that can help create an amazing space, it’s all about the memories not the gold plated chairs and Labrador puppy party favors!

We would love to hear about your experience with Figtree Wedding Photography
We honestly couldn’t fault our experience with Figtree, Dan was an absolute pleasure to work with and made the whole experience seamless and enjoyable! From our first phone call leading up to the day to on the day we wouldn’t change anything. Looking through the end product we are just blown away with the quality and detail in every single photo taken, we could not recommend them enough!
