Tell us a little about your day…
Our day was amazing! The weather was perfect and we even had a full moon during the reception!

What was your fave part or moment from your day?
Seeing each other down the isle, it was such a big moment.

Do you have any words of wisdom or tips for future couples?
Everyone says this but really take it all in, it goes so quickly. Don’t stress! You can spend so much time stressing about the weather, the cake etc but all that really matters is the love you have for one another.

THE FIGTREE GUIDE // Wet weather advice for a rainy wedding day

A rainy wedding day… it’s probably the one thing that we hear our couples stress about the most in the lead up to their wedding day. We are here to tell you that we LOVE the rain, and we have compiled some of our best tips to embrace a rainy wedding day, and ensure you nail the photos in the process.

Not only does rain provide an overcast background (which is great for eliminating shadows and unflattering light), it provides beautiful moody tones, and romance to your wedding images.

Check out our tips to make the most of it, like our recent wedding couples below that embraced the elements and rocked their rainy days.

DO YOU HAVE A PLAN B FOR YOUR CEREMONY?
If you are planning an outdoor ceremony, we would definitely recommend organising a wet weather option with your venue. Although for many couples an indoor ceremony can be a “Plan B”, it can be just as incredible as your Plan A! Transform your indoor ceremony space by adding lighting and candles to create the most beautiful ambience. You might also want to add some florals or foliage to the space to bring the outdoors in.

EMBRACE IT + BE BRAVE!
If rain is predicted for your wedding day, don’t stress! It can honestly create the most romantic and beautifully moody images. We can capture some stunning photos out in the rain, if you’re happy to be brave and embrace the elements. We promise you won’t regret it!

UMBRELLAS
That brings us to the next tip – umbrellas! If there is a chance of rain, it’s a great idea to purchase enough umbrellas for you and your bridal party (or check if your venue supplies them). Clear umbrellas are the best options for photos to allow as much light in as possible.

SHOES
When venturing outside to capture those dreamy rainy day photos, its likely that your feet might get a little wet. We would recommend bringing a change of shoes for after the location shoot, or possibly bringing a different option for the location shoot e.g. gumboots!

NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY
Another ridiculously amazing benefit to rain on your wedding day – night photos! With the use of lighting, we can capture some incredibly unique photos in the rain.

Lastly, remember what your day is about. It’s about the two of you, hanging out with your favourite people, having an amazing party, and saying ‘I do’. No amount of rain can take away the reason you are there. So let’s embrace and rock it!

“These girls are out of this world amazing!!! Alice had to put up with me sending her a million inspo pics and location messages prior to the wedding, they ran around in torrential rain and howling wind, We filled their car with a beach full of sand and these 2 poor cold drenched beautiful woman still managed to get amazing photos!!! 🙌🏼 The whole process was a breeze and I’m currently having dramas deciding which photo to enlarge and put on the wall. Thanks for sharing our amazing day.”

Tell us a little about your day…
We had dreamt of this day for almost 10years. An outdoor wedding, dining under the stars on a balmy spring evening, perched high in the byron hinterland. Our day arrived, the wind howled, the rain set in but the sweet flavours of rose water and elderflower cocktails tickled tastebuds and set the tone for a cosy, laughter filled evening. The grass was greener than We’d ever thought possible and the contrast of colours popped against it. The raw linen pouches with hand calligrapheried feathers, the glistening gold cutlery against speckled stone plates, the natives hanging from the rafters with glowing edison bulbs peeking through, the rain pattering lightly on the cottage tin roof, the light from the byron lighthouse sweeping past like clockwork….the stuff of Fairy tales! Our day was far from what we had imagined but is was complete magic.

What was your fave part or moment from your day?
There was not one single moment that was a favourite. All of them linked together with teeth on show all day is what fills your heart with joy. We still have people telling us about parts of the day they enjoyed and moments that felt magic to them, so the stories that continue are truely heart warming.

Do you have any words of wisdom or tips for future couples?
I’m a perfectionist and one major lesson I learnt that day was every is perfect if you don’t have a vision of what perfect should be. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff. The day flashes by like it never happened. Go with the flow whatever that may be! Ohhh and don’t drag you wet train through sand! It becomes so heavy your dress stretches 😂

Over the summer season we will be releasing a series of blogs with helpful tips for our brides to be. Today’s Figtree tip is so simple however it will help your photographer create the most stunning detail shots during your preparations.

We love creating flat lays with all of your beautiful wedding day details including your invitations, shoes, jewellery, engagement ring, perfume and more. Adding florals and foliage will enhance your images and allow us to capture inspirational detail shots.

So here is our tip… get in touch with your florist and ask if she can bring a few extra loose florals along with your bouquet. Here are some example images from previous weddings.
