THE FIGTREE GUIDE // 5 reasons we love a winter wedding!

As we welcome spring and say goodbye to winter, we thought we’d look back on the last few months at some of the seriously incredible winter wedding days we got to photograph!

Here at Figtree, we really believe that winter is one of the best seasons for weddings, especially in this part of the world! Why? Well, here are 5 of the reasons we love a winter wedding, as well as some of our favourite snaps from this winter season.

1. Weather + sunsets

Fun fact – winter is the driest season of the year! (in our surrounding regions of Byron Bay, Tweed Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast). Which means it’s a lot less likely to rain on your wedding day. Yay! Instead, we are lucky enough to experience crisp, clear skies and stunning golden sunsets.

2. Oh so romantic

Winter weddings are always just that little bit more romantic. The cooler season is something that can inspire your styling for the day. Think candle filled tablescapes, deep floral tones, dark green foliage, cosy spaces, rich fabrics, and luxe metallic details.

3. No sweat

Let’s be honest, nobody wants to be a sweaty mess on their wedding day! If you are planning an outdoor ceremony, winter is pretty perfect. Your groom and any males attending would definitely appreciate not being sweaty and uncomfortably hot in their suits throughout the ceremony. You also won’t have to worry about makeup sliding down your face 😉

4. Fashionista

We kind of have a thing for winter wedding fashion here at Figtree. Winter is the perfect time of year for elegant and timeless long sleeved lace dresses, or for you to rock a gorgeous embellished gown! One of our favourite trends at the moment also has to be brides in jackets. Whether they’re leather, denim, embroidered with your new surname – they all look amazing and are pretty practical too. Added bonus, you can whip out your jacket at the end of the location shoot to change up your look. Your groom might even want to get into the winter vibes with a velvet bow tie or jacket (yas!).

5. Let’s party

A pretty great benefit to winter weddings is the epic party you will have! When creating a timeline for a winter wedding, your ceremony and everything else starts a little earlier in the day as sunset is around the 5pm mark. Which means your reception formalities also start earlier, giving you more time at the end to let loose on the d-floor. Earlier sunset time = more time to party!

And that’s a wrap! It’s been an incredible season this year and we can’t wait to capture more goodness next time round.

Tell us a little about your day…
Our day was filled with Love, laughter… and lots of tears. Even with 125 guests it felt like a intimate affair. Set in Byron Bay Hinterland (a favourite holiday destination of ours) we were graced with perfect weather which made eating, drinking and dancing from 1pm through till 9pm all that more enjoyable. We were overwhelmed by the love we felt on the day, our family and friends truly made our wedding so special. A day we will never forget!

What was your fave part or moment from your day?
Seeing my husband, tears in his eyes, under the most beautiful tree as I walked down the aisle hand in hand with my first true love, my dad.

“I am just dropping you this email to let you know how happy we are with our stunning pictures from our big day last month!

Dan arrived to us girls with a smile on his face and ready to go – his vibe as soon as he entered the room was awesome! He set straight to work photographing my shoes, jewellery, dress etc. while we fnished having our hair and makeup done. When it came time to have our photos taken, he immediately made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Dan’s absolute professionalism, teamed with his laid back and highly entertaining personality made him the most perfect photographer I could have asked for.

Jesse let me know that Emily really blended in while the boys were getting ready – the candid shots that we have received of them getting ready are simply beautiful! The boys said they had so much fun having their pictures taken and that Emily was super bubbly and fun!

We did not even notice the two of them during the ceremony, but my goodness! According to our photos… they were everywhere! What skills to be able to manoeuvre the crowd and get the shots that they did, without even being seen!

Our ‘on location’ group photos were extremely entertaining, the two really knew how to work with the bridal party to ensure we had the best pictures, all while maintaining their professionalism. The photos of us in the paddock with the sunset are just stunning and quite easily my favourite of the day…

I cannot tell you how happy I was to see our pictures come through on email last week… I sat at my computer and cried for around an hour flicking through them all. Every single one of our guests were captured, and the quality of the photos are just spot on, words just cannot describe! So many of our guests also came up to us to let us know how great our photographers were and how Dan and Emily were capturing every single moment of the day. They worked so well with each other – what a team.

Thank you for capturing these beautiful memories for us that will last a lifetime. Thank you for making us feel so special, like we were the only bride and groom in the world. We will be highly recommending Dan, Emily and Figtree Pictures to all our friends/family who require a photography team.

Once again, thank you so very much!”

Tell us a little about your day…

We wanted our wedding day to be relaxed and fun, and it was everything we had hoped for and so much more. We were living in London while planning the wedding and had a lot of guests travelling a long way to attend, so we didn’t want to miss out on all of cocktail hour. We decided to do some First Look photos and we’re so glad we did. We got some quiet moments together and calmed the nerves before the party started, and also snuck in some photos with our pup Oli.

What was your fave part or moment from your day?

We’d planned for a beach ceremony with cocktails and the dance floor outdoors as well. On the morning of the wedding, the weather forecast was 50/50 but we decided to stick with the plan. The rain held out for our first dance under the fig tree and then it started pouring. Half of the guests ran to the backup dance floor inside but the rest stuck it out under the trees in the rain. The most amazing dance battle kicked off between the inside and outside groups, led by Pete and The White Tree Band. After all of the worry about the weather, the rain ended up creating some of the most amazing memories of our wedding day.

Do you have any words of wisdom or tips for future couples?

Remember what’s most important to you as a couple, it’s your day and after all of the time spent planning it really is over before you know it.
