THE FIGTREE GUIDE // Why engagement shoots are always a good idea

If you are newly engaged and wondering whether or not you should book an engagement shoot, here are a few reasons why we think engagement sessions are super beneficial for our couples.

1. Practice before the wedding day

Something we hear on a regular basis from our couples is… “we are so awkward in front of a camera”, which is totally normal! Engagement shoots are the perfect opportunity to get some practice in before the wedding day! We find that engagement shoots help our couples feel more comfortable in front of the camera on the wedding day as they know what to expect. Once you have had a chance to get used to being photographed, you’ll be amazed at how relaxed you can feel!

2. Meet your photographer

It’s without a doubt that an engagement session is the best opportunity to meet and spend some time with your photographer before the wedding day. During the engagement session your photographer will get to know your personalities, giving the photographer the opportunity to create the most natural and candid photos possible. We find this is especially beneficial for our grooms, who might feel a little uncomfortable in front of the camera.

3. Save the dates and wedding stationery

Once you have received your engagement photos, there are so many beautiful ways that you can use your photos to give a personal touch to your wedding. Save the date cards, a wedding website, guest book, thank you cards and so much more!

4. Utilise your hair and makeup trial

If you are planning on booking a hair + makeup trial before the wedding day, we definitely recommend booking this on the same day as your engagement shoot. This means you will have flawless makeup for your photos, without having to pay extra for another makeup booking. Its also the perfect opportunity to see how your makeup looks in photos.

5. Choose a location different to your wedding venue

We are lucky enough to be based in such a stunning part of the world with so many epic backdrops. On the wedding day, we usually capture your location photos onsite or at a nearby location. The amazing thing about an engagement session is the amount of flexibility compared to a wedding shoot. For example if you are planning a hinterland wedding, you might like to consider a engagement shoot on a beautiful headland and beach (without filling your wedding dress with sand!).

And finally, sometimes its just nice to have beautiful professional photos of you both as a couple in your little engaged love bubble. Get in touch with us for more information.
